News from the Fourth Grade

The year is going so fast!  It's hard to believe we have less than 60 days of school left.  The fourth graders have been working hard and making great gains.  I am proud of their hard work!

In Reading, we have been working on skills like: story theme, author's purpose, main idea and details, and fact and opinion.  We have also been implementing test taking strategies daily.  MAP test will be here before we know it.  The students are improving on each of our weekly assessments and I see them using the test taking strategies with each of these assessments.

In Math, we have been learning to divide and are beginning factors and multiples.  In division, the students have learned different strategies, which include:  repeated subtraction, partial quotients, and long division.  The students, of course use the one they are most comfortable with. We have just begun factors and multiples and we are learning different strategies with this as well.

In Science, we are working on Force and Motion.  We have learned about Newton's Laws of Motion.  We would like to thank Josh and Rachael Hall for bringing us a weather probe that was found in a local tree.  The probe was released from somewhere in Nebraska and we had the opportunity to view it and mail it back to National Weather Service in Kansas City.  The students were excited to be able to see the probe and learn about it's purpose.
