Elementary Principal’s Corner – February 2014
I am sure many of you have already heard but I am retiring from Green City R-I at the end of the year. I have had some wonderful years at Green City. The kids have been fantastic. In fact that will be the hardest part of leaving. I have told many of them that I will be coming back often to check on them. I am leaving public school and going to be taking a position at Mary Immaculate in Kirksville as their elementary principal. I will also be teaching pre-algebra, algebra, and religion. I am excited about getting back into the classroom as a teacher.
Thanks to everyone who purchased cookie dough. The kids did a great job at selling this year. I know many of you are wondering what we are going to be using the money for. We have been talking about starting an incentive program next year. We would like to recognize students who excel on their test scores both on state test and district test. When we talk about the word excel we mean any student who is meeting 80% or above or any student who has increased their scores from the last quarter. That gives all students an opportunity to receive recognition. We are also looking at recognizing attendance and citizenship. We have discussed many ways to do this. Some of those are t-shirts with stars that list all of these things or possibly dog tags that have these labeled on the tag. As a team they will decide the best way to recognize students. If you would like to work on a committee with the teachers just let me know. We would appreciate any help in deciding what best fits our students.
We are planning a Title I night on Monday, March 31, 2014 starting at 5:30 and going until 6:30. The teachers with the help of the students would like to share with you how they do problem solving in math. We will be serving a light snack and drink. So please plan to put that date on the calendar.
Can you believe this quarter is almost over? Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. We would love to touch base with 100% of our parents. I believe most teachers have already been sending home notices about times. If you haven’t seen one, give your child’s teacher a call. We can’t wait to brag on your child.
Please be sure to check out the calendar on the web site. Third through sixth grade basketball is going on during March. You might have a free night and can attend a game. The kids would love to have a big crowd.
