Fourth Grade News

The year is flying by!  It's hard to believe that next week, we will be on Thanksgiving Break and just around the corning is Christmas!

In Fourth grade, we are continuing multisyllable words in Spelling using a variety of vowel patterns and the students practice these words each night. They practice these words  in a lot of fun ways via Spelling Bingo.  This includes Good Clean Words (in shaving cream), unscrambling the words, alphabetic order, and rhyming or defining.  This gives them a variety of strategies to learn these words.  We continue to work on Comprehension Strategies in Reading.  Each week, we cover a new strategy, as well review any previously learned strategies.

In Math, we have learned to multiply multiple-digit numbers and have moved on to Dividing.  We are learning many different strategies to use when dividing.  Not everyone learns the same (of course), so these many strategies help with those different learning styles.

The students have been participating in a Reading challenge with Mrs. Franklin and they are really working hard to read as much as she does.  I encourage the students to continue reading at home in their spare time.  This is not only entertaining, but enhances their vocabulary and comprehension.
