Guided Reading Assessment

August 25, 2017

A new assessment will be given this year at Green City R-1 Elementary.  Students in kindergarten through sixth grade will be given a Guided Reading Assessment by Fountas and Pinnell.  Teachers will be  able to determine student's independent and instructional reading level from data collected and utilize the information gathered to drive their classroom instruction.

This assessment will be given one on one by your student's classroom teacher.  Students will read aloud a fiction or non-fiction book, while the teacher takes notes about student achievement and errors. Next the teacher and student will engage in a revealing comprehension conversation over the story read. Teachers will identify the skills and strategies needed for the student to become a proficient reader and will incorporate these skills into small group instruction. Grade level teachers will share this information at our first quarter parent teacher conference.  If you have questions, call or email your child's classroom teacher.
