ELA Classes Diving Right Into 2017-18

English Language Arts classes have kicked off the 2017-18 school year by diving into a variety of topics and projects. Explore 8 students are enjoying The Hysterical History of the Trojan War, a two-act melodrama full of puns and spoofs, as they learn the history behind the Spartan and Trojan decades-long war … well, sorta; you can’t always trust these melodramas to tell the truth. They will be performing the play for their fellow 8th grade students on Friday, September 15th.

ELA I, II, & III students are using context clues to learn new vocabulary and put “the puzzle pieces of literature” together as they make connections, analyze writing techniques, and recognize cross-cultural overlaps. Students are realizing that the feelings and struggles they experience today are not unique to 2017 because people have experienced the same feelings and struggles throughout time.

Creative Writing students are working on their first project: an original graphic novel or comic book. They have been learning about their creative writing toolbox, illustrating, and comic strip writing. Their original works will be featured in a class anthology.

Meanwhile, Mass Media students have been deconstructing – analyzing – advertisements, posters, and jingles to find the tools the businesses, organizations, and other entities are using to market their products.
