Fourth Grade News
It is already January! We are over half way through the school year and BOY is it flying by!
We celebrated the 100th Day of school on Tuesday, January 23rd by doing some 100th Day activities. The students wrote to some prompts. If I had $100, I would... and When I am 100 years old.. and I was really impressed with their writing. Some would spend the money right away and others would save it or invest it for later. The students would take some kind of trip, sit all day and watch TV, sit in their Hover Chair, or play video games all day. Some pretty creative ideas! We also created a mural in the hallway by the Principal's office of hearts. The students wrote one thing they love about Green City R-1 on their heart and posted it on the mural. Be sure to stop and look at it if you are in the building.
Guided Reading is going great! I am seeing great improvements in Reading Levels, fluency, and reading with inflection and feeling. The students are really enjoying being able to make their own choices on what to read and work on during this time. This allows them to become better readers by taking responsibility for their own learning and choosing books of interest to them. They are also rotating through comprehension and phonics stations each day and working on writing.
For Science, we are currently growing seeds. We put a lima bean, a pumpkin seed, and a sunflower seed in a baggie with wet paper towels. Each day, we check the moisture in the bag and watch the seed form roots. So far, we have some pretty healthy plants and will continue to watch them grow.
