6th Grade!
I cannot believe it is already the end of February and the end of third quarter is approaching in a couple of weeks. We have been very busy in sixth grade since we got back from Christmas break.
In Math, we have been working with equations with Mrs. Fields and I, and unit conversions with me.
In Reading, we have been working on different test-taking strategies. We have been making sure we answer questions based on going back in the text and finding the text evidence that supports our answers. We have been using the books that I have read out loud to the students so far this school year, and we map out the books’ plots and how the character feels and changes throughout the plot. We are always working on building our vocabulary knowledge by doing different vocabulary activities and using context clues to help figure out what words mean in our reading.
In Writing, we have been forming argumentative writings about different topics. The students have spent a few days in the computer lab doing research over their topic. We have also gone over the importance of citing our sources and how they do not plagiarize. I cannot wait for these argumentative writings to be finished because we have conflicting arguments for most of the topics chosen.
In Science, we finished up the water cycle quickly after we came back from break. Then, we have been looking into the scale properties of objects in the solar system. We will then be learning about the Earth-Sun-Moon and the Earth-Sun systems next!
In Social Studies, we have been working on locating the major landforms in the seven continents.
As we are about to enter into the fourth quarter, the students are getting more excited for their Sixth Grade Promotion on May 10th. However, we have a lot to accomplish between now and then, as MAP testing will be at the end of April. These students will have great successes in middle school next year!
