News from the Library

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! I am so excited about this new journey as your Librarian and Computer Instructor.  As some of you may know, new carpet was installed in the library this summer (actually not until August 7th and 8th).  I was a little stressed out about getting everything done and all the books back on shelves by the time school started on August 16th.  With the help of some amazing volunteers (Angie Carmack, Jackie Parrish, Phylis Jobe, Marilyn Carr, and Danita, Gracey and Clare Gordon), we got it all done in just a few hours on August 9th and 10th.  Then it was on to the task of getting all of my things unpacked.  Regretfully, I am still working on that.  I found that I have accumulated way too much in my years in the elementary and some weeding was necessary.

We are already doing some great things in the library and computer labs.  The students in the upper elementary have worked on internet safety projects, such as "Choices and Cheaters", "Beat the Tricks", and "Attitude Overdrive", compliments of Netsmartz and learned procedures for computer class and the library, and logging on and off the computers.  The lower elementary is learning about the keyboard and proper finger placement needed for typing, as well as procedures for computer class and the library, and logging on and off the computers.  They are using a typing program called Dance Mat Typing to practice.

Just a reminder, the Book Fair will be held from October 15th to October 17th with the parent night being held on the 17th.  The students will have the opportunity to shop during their library and computer classes that week, as well as the afternoon and evening of the 17th with their parents.  This is a great opportunity to purchase some inexpensive books for your child.  Please plan to attend on October 17th from 1 pm to 7 pm.
