Baseball Season....Hopefully!
Baseball season, like so many other things, has been put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to our shutdown the team was in full swing preparing for the upcoming spring season. The guys and girls on the team had been working hard to prepare to defend our district title this season. The team is 18 players strong at this point. The Juniors on the team are; Riley Schoonover, Judd Hepler, Eli Tipton, Landon Doosing, Tristan Herschberger, Chris Barto, Wyatt Carmack and Zachary Hoyle. The sophomores on the team are Laydon Fields, Garrett Hall, Haydn Weaver and Celeste Athon. The freshmen include; Aaron Peaver, Grant O'Haver, Brody Lunsford, Arie Salas, Ty Ayers and Jenna Brown. We are a young bunch with no seniors on the team, but what we might lack in expericne we make up for with talent and hard work.
As of now the MSHSAA is still hopeful that spring sports will be allowed to continue at some point in the near future. I for one am looking forward to seeing the Gophers back on the diamond playing in front of best fans in the state of Missouri. Some positive that we have received during this troubling time is that Green City was selected to host the district baseball tournament in 2020. Stay safe and healthy!
