New Chromebooks Added to Green City R-1

Students in Kindergarten-12th grades have been receiving the opportunity to work on Chrome Books to complete class assignments, do research, record themselves reading, and to play educational games.  The technology is being used to enhance learning in the classroom.  Students are able to to log in and utilize extensions and applications to complete projects.  They are also able to type papers, complete slide shows, and research their topics.  Two Chrome Book carts have been added for teacher check out so that they may utilize technology not only in the computer labs, but also in their classroom . . .

Green City R-1 Jr. High / High School News

  GC Jr. High and High School, where we work hard and play hard!   Believe it or not, the Jr. High Basketball season has officially ended.  The Jr. High Boys Team was undefeated for the entire season and won First Place in the Atlanta Tournament.  What amazing accomplishments!  The Girls Team ended their season with an 8-5 winning record.  Our JH Cheerleaders also provided the teams with enthusiasm and spirit as one of the top performing squads in the Conference.  Congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, and sponsors for upholding our GC tradition of excellence.

GC Jr. High and High School News

GC Jr. High and High School, where we work hard and play hard! Veteran’s Day 2017 - Presentation   Last Friday was another good day to be a GC Gopher as the GC Student Council hosted our annual Veteran’s Day Assembly.  The Veterans were recognized and honored in a variety of ways.  Area Veterans and Active Servicemen and Women  were recognized through a visual slide presentation created by our own Business teacher, Mrs. Lunsford.  (The presentation is available for viewing on our GC Facebook page.)  A very moving vocal selection entitled You Are My Hero . . .

Junior High Boys Capture Conference Crown

The junior high boys basketball team recently wrapped up the 2017 Tri-County Conference title.  The team finished up the conference season with a perfect 8-0 record.  It is the third conference for the junior high boys in the past four years.  In addition to being conference champions the team also won the championship of the Green City Tournament to start the season.  The team still has win their last game, the Atlanta Tournament Championship game on November to complete their quest for an undefeated season.  The Gophers will face rival Novinger in that game.There was a tremendous turnout for the team this . . .

First Grade Happenings

First Grade Happenings   Time is moving quickly.  Students in first grade have a lot of things to master before the year is done so we are taking advantage of the guided reading program.  A first grade student is expected to rise from a level B to a level J reader.  Keep reading with them every day.  Statistics show reading for 20 minutes is necessary for reading achievement.  I am happy to say, we have many students rising in their levels. Ask your child what level they are on. Our music time was moved to Tuesdays - leaving us with extra time on Thursdays. We . . .
