Marching Gold Takes 2nd at Pancake and Canton Competitions
The Green City High School Marching Gold Band competed this past marching season at the Centerville, IA, Pancake Day competition against 7 schools taking 2nd place; and at the Culver Stockton Homecoming Parade Competition, Canton, MO, also placing 2nd.
The band under the direction of Mr. Glenn Palmer, Mrs. Brianna Mann, Assistant Director, and Mrs. Elizabeth Halter, Flag Director began the season with a week-long band camp in July, several early morning band practices, and rehearsals during band class. The band marched in local tune-up parades at Green Castle, Winigan, and the Milan Homecoming before the Centerville competition.
The band looked sharper and sounded better with each subsequent event. On October 08, the Marching Gold performed in the Hannibal Band Day Parade. At Hannibal the band was able to watch several other schools march in the parade and field shows. Mr. Palmer stated: “The students watching other bands perform is very important: it helps us evaluate where we are in relation to the competition in terms of ability and skill-set, we learn that we still have room for improvement and growth, and we can have one of the best bands in the region regardless of class distinction.” This is a very young band with a lot of talent and room for growth.
