Green City Elementary Makes Academic Improvement

As many of you are aware, Green City Elementary School was identified as a Focus School by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education during the 2012 school year.  This identification was due to having low achievement of those students identified as a part of a subgroup.  This subgroup consisted of students who received free/reduced priced lunch, racial/ethnic background, English language learners, and students with disabilities.  The achievement of these group of students were in the bottom 5%-15% of the schools in the state who receive federal money through Title programs over a 3 year period of time.  With nearly 70% of the Green City Elementary school’s  population falling into the subgroup category, it was imperative that the academic achievement of all students be improved.

Green City has been working diligently since this identification to increase the academic achievement of ALL students, including those in the subgroup.  After several years of hard work, Green City Elementary school is proud to announce that we have met our target for the first time since 2012.  Our target was to have 25.6% of our subgroup students be advanced or proficient in ELA and Math.  We finally exceeded that goal by having a 3 year average of 37.4% of our subgroup students scoring proficient or advanced.  In ELA (English Language Arts) we went from a 17.8% in 2014 to a 58.6% in 2016.  In mathematics, the students went from a 20% proficiency rate to a 48.3% proficiency rate.

Green City R-1 is extremely excited about the gains our students have made and know that through hard-work and determination, we will ensure that our students become successful.  Our school mission statement is “Building Foundations for Successful Lives.”  We work each and every day to ensure out students have the skills they need to create the future of their dreams.
