Library News

The year is off to a great start in the library and computer lab!  All grades have been learning about internet safety.  The lower grades are also practicing logging on and off and using the mouse to navigate.  The 5th and 6th graders are creating lessons for the younger students about being safe on the internet.  This is an ongoing project and will be presented in a few weeks.

I am excited to announce that 3rd through 6th grade will be keeping track of Accelerated Reader Points.  As these students read books, they can go to arbookfind.com to see how many points their book is worth.  Once they have completed the book, they will go on Renaissance Learning and take a quiz over the book.  Points will be earned for that book with a score of 80% or above on the quiz.  We will keep track of points on a bulletin board in the library.  At the end of each quarter, students meeting the goal will receive a prize.  At the end of the year, students that meet the points goal for the school year will be awarded with a field trip (location is yet to be determined).

The Book Fair is coming up with Family Night on Thursday, October 24th from 1pm to 7pm in conjunction with Parent Teacher Conferences.  The students will get to preview the fair on Friday, October 18th during school hours.  They will be able to shop throughout the week leading up to Family Night and Parent Teacher Conferences.  There is a new feature this year at the Book Fair.  Parents will be able to go on to Scholastic Book Fair's website and "load" at card for the students to shop with.  This is not mandatory and the students will still be able to purchase with cash throughout the week.  the new feature is just an additional option if parents choose to use it.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the Book Fair!
