Where The Wild Things Are Title Night

Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, students and staff who came and made our Family Title Night a great success!!! The evening started out with Mrs. Halley sharing Title 1 Information, follwed by listening to the story, Where the Wild Things Are, on the large screen projector.  We then ended the night with families working together to create a fun Wild Thing mask!

5th Grade News

  What a whirlwind of emotions went into getting prepared for school this year. I am sure many of you were nervous of the unknowns, just like I was. I went through several emotional days trying to plan out a way to help my students in this different situation. Although my room looks different than I am used to, desks are back in rows, students doing more individual work, and no more classroom supply tubs, I am so excited that we have knocked out the first few weeks of school!  Our first week of school was full of getting to know each other and figuring out how our new routines would work. We're Up and Running here in Room 1601!

Some exciting...and at times, frustrating...changes are taking place in Room 1601 this year. While we are still doing some paper and pen/cil work, many of our assignments and activities are taking place via Google Classroom. During the first two weeks of classes, we did several activities to learn/refresh skills that will be needed for the new assignment format. We've created virtual lockers, ideal writing spaces, and movie posters to practice and learn skills that will be necessary for digital one-pagers, collage work, visual representation of literary works, etc. We've done video lessons together in class to practice Flipped . . .

News From the Library

Wow!  What a great start to the 2020-2021 School Year!  I am so excited to be back!  Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed having TWO Summer Breaks, but I missed the students so much and was ready to come back! We are already going strong in the library.  The students are "re"learning how to check out books, use shelf markers to put books back in the right place, and remembering their lunch numbers.  We've started out the year with All About Me workstations in the library and I am learning lots of new things about our students.  Did you know that a couple of our elementary students . . .
